As you may know, Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. But do you know more about this planet?

The name Jupiter comes from the king of the Roman gods. Besides that, the crazy fact is that Jupiter has rings! Of course, it is hard to see them, because compared to Saturn’s rings they are very faint.

Moreover, Jupiter has 67 moons. Can you believe it? What is more, 4 of them are the largest moons in the solar system!

According to scientists, it rains diamonds on Jupiter and Saturn and those planets have the capability to create 1000 tons of diamonds a year! Scientists believe that the diamond rains form when the elemental carbon enters the deep atmosphere of the planet where the pressure turns it into a diamond.

But what happens with those falling diamonds?

In Saturn and Jupiter diamonds eventually melt into a liquid see in the planet’s hot cores.

Finally, did you know that Jupiter is a failed star?!

It’s because Jupiter is made of the same elements as stars (hydrogen and helium)! Sadly, this planet’s size is not massive enough to cause hydrogen to fuse to helium. Besides, it does not have the energy source that powers most stars…

…and because of that, Jupiter is not a star!
